The Alphans are a species of telepathic humanoids from the planet Alpha, in the constellation of Orion. Although unaware of it at first, they are actually descendants of the Human race, though how this occurred isn't explained in detail, as they already possess star-traveling technology while Humans are still confined to their homeworld in the late 20th century.
The Legion of the Winged Serpent is a rogue affiliation from Alpha whose members believe their native sun is about to prematurely go supernova, and left their home system in a flying saucer, intending to colonize Earth, killing off their ancestor race in process. They are opposed to the Intergalactic League of Races, which vows to safeguard the development of primitive civilizations.
