|Behind the Scenes|
The B'ool Sporath or Bloodworms are ancient beasts from the planet Mars, the most feared creatures from the world (indeed said to be the only creatures the Green Martians feared).
The worms are incredibly large four-limbed carnivores, they posses the ability to spew a highly volatile acid from their mouths that seems to pre-digest food before consumption and aid in their incredibly fast burrowing. The acid is ineffective against the materials of human bones.
The worms have natural but primitive telepathic abilities that are used to hunt prey, as well they seem to have a natural resistance to the telepathy of the Green Martians.
Young Bloodworms are hatched from eggs, the White Martians used incubators similar to those they hatched their own young in, with a few modifications noticeable to J'onn J'onzz.
The worms are highly aggressive and largely subterranean, they are seen hunting and working in groups but it is unknown how these creatures interact with each other.
Called "the destroyers" and "the drinkers of souls" by the Green Martians these beasts were greatly feared as the acids they spit would completely liquefy a martian. The worms could appear anywhere even in the homes of the Green Martians.
For the first time in history the Green and White martians banded together against a common foe. Together they developed a desperate plan using themselves as bait luring the B'ool Sporath into small space shuttles set to impact with Phobos.
Even the impact with the moon was not enough to kill them all though, and phobos was blasted with plasma weaponry until none of the creatures remained alive. But a few survived, their shuttles diverted to earth.
An experimental breeding project was undertaken at a secret base on earth by the White Martians, seemingly for the purpose of using them against the Greens. Before they could be weaponized something went wrong and the Whites were all killed.
The bloodworms went on a rampage killing many humans with latent psychic abilities. J'onn J'onzz was able to defeat the majority of them when he realized that their acid did not dissolve human bones, and thus we was able to create armor to protect himself in battle against them.
When the battle was over a single egg remained, J'onn J'onzz refused to be the agent of destruction for a martian species. He kept the egg so that it would not fall into the hands of someone who may misuse it, its fate is unknown.
