Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, also known as Ben Tennyson or simply Ben 10, is a typical Human Teenager, who just happens to wield an Omnitrix and formerly the Ultimatrix and Prototype Omnitrix, which latched itself to his wrist. was unable to remove it, and so began to use its powers - to allow its wielder to "walk a mile in another sapient species' shoes" by temporarily altering their DNA sequencing into that of another species - to become a hero. However, this job turned out to be much more difficult than he would have imagined, especially when the warlord Vilgax, a Chimera sui generis discovered his possession of an Omnitrix, at which point he began to relentlessly pursue him to possess it.

When he was ten, he was known for playing video games, riding his skateboard, and often getting into mischief; all the common stereotypes for a ten-year-old boy.
