First of, I have written this post partially to try to create a place to settle down the recent controversy over "Alternative Forms of Life", so we no longer have to jump over between several user talk pages and category talk pages, and I also think putting it in blog form might help bringing in more opinions on the whole matter.
Thing is: I have recently brought back Category:Alternative Forms of Life (because it had dozens of pages and I saw it as a nice, useful category), which had been previously deleted. This blog is intended for the Administrators and Bureaucrats of ASW.
While I was perusing the various IP blocks we have here, I noticed a trend to block IP's for either infinite, or for an inhumanly long time (until 2111, for example.)
I feel it must be reminded that all users first deserve a warning, and then a temporary block. (3-5 days). If they are just petty vandals, they will probably not come back after that. If they do, and continue to vandalize, a longer sentence should be put in place. (2-3 weeks, depending on severity of actions.)
One thing we should never do though, is outright ban an IP from editing this wiki, forever. It is potentially detrimental to people who may get that IP in the future and may wish to edit here, or people …

How do we handle plants . . .
both the words "flora" and "plants" are technically incorrect.
Do you put non-sapient plants in the "non-sapient species" category? As there are both sapient, and non-sapient plants . . . .
I say we use the term "flora" - _ - and then categorize the species by sapience . . .but that is confusing as heck, because then we will have a bunch of plants in non-sapient species . . . .

For years, I've been utilizing code on here to create new infoboxes to include info not found in current templates; however, I am thinking about creating some new templates for us to use, similar to this or this. Do any of you have any opinions on what should and shouldn't be included? I'm thinking it'd go something like the following:

For quite some time now (and I mean it, it's been more than a year) we've had the same "featured article" in our Main Page, the Moorwen.
Before that, I remember we went through a few others that were chosen by votation every month, but that system was sort of unofficially dropped because almost nobody voted. And before that, I remember we had a list of "featured articles" which were chosen arbitrarily.
I believe it's time for another change, and I got a proposal. Between having a list and having a new article every month, I prefer the list, so we won't have to chose something new all the time. I have found a new method of sorting Species by trait without overwhelming the pages with categories.

I banned IP 74.103.169.10 for changing the Grey Widowers information on the Creatures of the Mist page into simply "POOP POOP". Vandals annoy me. They'll be gone for a while. If there's anything I've missed let me know, of course. I'm all ears, scrutinizing eyes, page scrubbing industrial bleach and banhammers. And, I dunno, a Pokédex or something.

Here is a list of articles created—presumably all by 75.75.65.17—that have absolutely no information on them, and are simply "blank pages". If any of you have the time or the knowledge (or the search engine skills) to fill some of these out for us (I will be doing so some but I also have other engagements) that'd be great. 180.247.1.104 added a few "image placeholders" to some of the alien species galleries—specifically to AL, KI and RI. These additions are "Alien Bears", "Kisshu/Kish" and "Rick the Platypus". Now, I have no idea what the first two are but I can state that Rick the Platypus is a character from My Gym Partner's a Monkey, episode 33 entitled "That Darn Platypus". That makes my assumption that the other two may be actual species as well though I don't know what from. Small blog post today. Anyone out there capable of taking screenshots of their DVD player on their computer or wherever (some DVD programs shut off printscreen ability, some do not) want to go out and rent Alien Origin from Redbox..? PART 1 The birth of the two infants, Lisa and Arnold Shin to their human "Father" Griswold Shin. Father is single and having to raise the two children on his own.

I will be studying the pregnant male sim, the subject in question is one "Griswold Shin" a sim of my own creation. Little manipulation was used in triggering the pregnancy.

The categories here seem to be ill-thought out for the scope of the project . . . I suggest a complete restructuring of the categories.
It needs to be planned though, there is going to be a loooooooooot of grunt work involved in reformatting the categories of 5000 pages, of course I have the time to do so o _ o
There needs to be four over-categories, one for technology, worlds, sapient species, and non-sapient species. A basic overview of what I think it should be I am going to put here, but I think a lot more discussion needs to be put into the idea of a radical reformation such as this.

- I have decided to re-blog my blog from the prey wiki, this blog concerns the many races of the "Prey Universe", as prey 2 has not been released the names of many of these races are simply placeholders'
Well, prey has undergone a radical shift in structure. It is no longer a universe formatted like doom, resistence, or red faction. No longer does a single enemy sit upon a pedestle of wrong, and a single force stand for good. Normally a reformmatting like this would hurt the universe (ask red faction about when it added aliens) . . . . but . . . In prey, stated that other races and worlds existed out there. While that isn't against policy or anything as far as I can recall, these completely blank could get easily lost amongst all the other pages if we don't get on adding at least some information to them, which for one will diminish our overall professionalism. If you are looking for pages to add info on, I suggest checking out their contribution page and adding info as well as images to the various pages (though you should check the alien species galleries just in case images for the species already exist). I "permabanned" IP address 98.208.152.222 (for a full year) due to their...complete and total disrespect for the wikia project(s). He had vandalized the Interdimensional Being page with information such as, "I THINK ITS TIME FOR ANOTHER HIT OF LSD...." and "Thirteen beings arrived on my balls about 5,000 years ago (circa 3,000 BC)." He also linked to some Facebook account (his, I would assume) along with what some people consider a still-offensive version of the "n word". this user came to my attention when somoinoa messaged me. So I blocked him for 3 days next thing he tried to bypass the block using his I.P so he was reblocked. anyways I spoke to him about this matter before his block expires I also deleted his images (meny were duplicats and to big)). It looks like he has got the message that this behavior won't be tolorated on this wiki however he should be moniored which I am doing at the moment but if he reverts back to his formor self let the ASPF know and we will handle it however if you are an admin by all means block him

Dantescifi thinks he's...funny, or something. He added a bunch of Star Wars images - some of which we already have - but the thing is, he added MASSIVE amounts of white to each. Each of these need to be deleted but I want the other admins to see. One is even the same image twice under separate species name. Sorry, but no. It's another suspicious action.

The only thing is, whoever took it over recently has killed it and brought it back down to be specifically based off the Alien universe.
