The Empress is a larger version of the Xenomorph Queen, also capable of laying eggs which produce Queen facehuggers, which birth Xenomorph Queen s. It is supposed to be the original queen of area, and mother to all the Xenomorphs on the planet. The Empress is the 3rd smartest of the xenomorphs, coming before the Queen Mother and King Alien . The Empress is also incredibly large, standing at 50' (aproximate guess). like the Queen Mother, the Empress also has incredible telepathic powers, though not as strong. Should the Empress come under attack and die, the Queen Mother will send another Empress to aid the chotic xenomorphs still on the planet.
