SuperBob

SuperBob (real name Robert 'Bob' Kenner) is a human from London, England who was struck by a meteorite and gained several super powers as a result; later becoming a civil servant/superhero working for the British Government and the Ministry of Defence.

The powers that Bob acquires are very similar to the DC comic book hero Superman, with Bob's powers including super strength, super senses, supersonic flight, heat vision, x-ray vision and invulnerability.

SuperBob is portrayed by actor and comedian Brett Goldstein.

Story[]

Becoming SuperBob[]

In Summer 2008, an asteroid named EE2007 breaks up under Jupiter's gravity, with the asteroid's fragments heading towards Earth. As the worldwide media covers the story, one of the pieces of the asteroid enters into a collision course with the United Kingdom - specifically the Peckham District in London. The meteorite eventually makes impact in Peckham Rye Park as a postman named Robert Kenner (who was enjoying his day off by sunbathing in the park) is

hit by the meteorite. Although he's taken to the hospital following the events, the news later reports he has mysteriously vanished.

Following his interaction with the meteorite, Bob discovers he has now gained superpowers as a result and begins to try to learn how to use them. His early usage of his powers - most notably his ability to fly - go viral as some individuals manage to get photos of him - leading the media to suggest that Bob and the 'Flying Man' are the same person, with one of Bob's colleagues at the Post Office confirming that he believes this is true due to Bob now completing his rounds much quicker then before.

Despite his early success with his powers, Bob has an accident while flying across London at high speed as he crashes through the Shard, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to the landmark. Seeing the news report on the accident and realizing he needs help to control his abilities, Bob willingly hands himself into the Police.

Following this, the Ministry of Defence secludes him and begins to help Bob learn how to control his various powers over the next few months, with Bob struggling at first with some of the tasks (such as controlling his flying ability) and some accidents occurring such as Bob accidentally injuring a staff member with his heat vision.

Despite this, Bob eventually masters his powers and is given a uniform before been unveiled to the world as 'SuperBob' - a superhero who will be working for the Ministry of Defence and the British Government.

Early Years[]

Working for a woman named Teresa Ford in a section of the MOD called the "Emergency Response/Disaster Unit", Bob is made to work 6 days a week, with Tuesday been his day off as sanctioned by the United Nations - although Teresa sometimes will ignore this and call Bob into work on a Tuesday for certain tasks but will make sure that Bob is not seen working. Furthermore, while the general public refer to Bob as a superhero, Bob and the rest of the government instead refer to him as a 'Civil Servant'.

As a result of working for the MOD, there is a lot of administrative work involved - with some of it been beneficial for Bob (such as the setting up of 'no-fly' zones for aircraft to ensure that Bob doesn't crash into any), while other forms - which are given to people to complete after Bob saves them - have not been well received. Although Teresa declares that the forms are necessary so the MOD can

keep a log of Bob's work, Bob himself admits that he also hates the forms. Another detracting factor regarding Bob's actions as a superhero is his simplistic personality, with one woman who was saved by him referring to Bob as a 'dullard'.

In regards to his personal life, Bob has remained living in Peckham - with his mother (who has short-term memory loss and other issues) living in a London care-home. Despite been invulnerable, Bob has a mandatory security guard called Barry who watches over the house, while also having a Colombian lady called Doris who is both his part-time cleaner as well as acting as Bob's carer. It's revealed that Doris also works at the care home where Bob's mother resides, with her becoming very friendly with Mrs Kenner and following her request to look after him. Doris herself

wants to follow her dream of looking after children and opening up a nursery in Columbia, but has made very little money in the 6 years she has been living in England.

In 2013, America - reportedly having been angered at the fact that it was the UK that had gotten the world's first superhero and not them - made an attempt to poach Bob to instead have him working for the American government. However, the attempt failed after been blocked by the Ministry of Defence. Since then, some American politicians - most notably an American senator called Bill Jackson - have started a smear campaign against SuperBob, making the claim that he is "a weapon that Britain has no control over".

Present Day[]

At the authorization of Teresa, a documentary is given the go-ahead to be made about SuperBob to try and improve his popularity. During the filming on Bob's day off, Bob reveals that he has a date at midday with a lady called June -

an American who works at the local library. While out with Doris, who is helping him buy clothes for his date as well as giving him tips on what to do while on his date, Bob receives a call from Teresa - telling him there is an emergency and he has to come into the MOD immediately. When questioned by Doris about what he will do about his date with June, Bob states he will try to be quick but will postpone the date if he can't get away in time - prompting him and Doris to have an argument in which she tells him to stand up for himself more and learn to say no.

At the MOD, Teresa tells Bob that Senator Jackson is on his way to London for the MOD Weapons Summit and that they arranged for SuperBob to shake hands with him in the hopes of easing tensions caused between the US and UK as a result of the smear campaign. During the meeting, Bob rings up June to rearrange his date before deciding to

follow Doris' advice - standing up to Teresa before walking out to have his date. Unbeknown to Bob, Teresa and the MOD have been monitoring Bob during his days off and learned of his relationship with June, with Teresa calling June after Bob's walkout and telling her not to attend her date.

While waiting for June to show up, Bob is called away by Doris as his mother has had an accident at the care-home, with Bob having to tell his mother that he is dating Doris after she gets upset and tries to have a drug overdose due to him not having a girlfriend. Seeing how happy she is at this lie, Bob convinces Doris to go along with it - culminating with the pair sharing a dance together, with it being clear that they do have some feelings for each other. During their stay, June rings and states to Bob that she wasn't standing him up and they arrange to have a meal later at Bob's house.

After Bob and Doris leave the care home, Doris returns to Bob's house while Bob heads towards a multi-car pileup. Elsewhere, Teresa and Bill Jackson get into an argument on the news following Bob's refusal to shake hands with him - even going as far as to claim that SuperBob hates America while continuing to patronize Britain over their handling of SuperBob (referring to him as an 'Unsanctioned Weapon of Mass Destruction') and the MOD's apparent lack of control, which is given some truth when it's revealed that Bob is helping at the scene of an accident despite it being his day off. Teresa immediately heads for the accident and angrily tells Bob to follow her instructions and leave - but he refuses and provides support to a fatally injured woman, much to Teresa's anger, before leaving.

with June - with Doris leaving shortly after June arrives. The two share a mostly pleasant evening despite Bob's social awkwardness and have dinner together. However, after Bob finds a helpful message from Doris regarding a problem he had earlier (he couldn't remember which gas supplier he was with), Bob decides he would rather be with Doris and explains this to June. However, their meeting is then interrupted by members of the MOD, with Bob and June both been driven to the Weapon Summit - with June explaining that Teresa stopped her from attending their date at Lunch but that she does like him - while Bob is made to put on a different, 'internationally approved' uniform (which Bob expresses his dislike of by asking if the people who approved it were blindfolded).

During the Summit, Bob confronts Teresa about been manipulated after she reveals that the MOD have been

monitoring him. Furthermore, he is angered by Teresa saying that she and the MOD want him to stay with June as she is American and will help smooth tensions between the UK and US as well as the rest of the world. However, Bob finally snaps when he finds out from Senator Jackson that they have bought Doris a nursery in Columbia and are sending her away - crushing the senator's hand before smashing his way out of the MOD as he begins to search for Doris. His actions cause London to go on high alert while the rest of the world begins a manhunt for him. After searching in several places, Bob manages to find Doris at the care-home, with the people of Peckham forming a barrier to prevent the police from getting in.

Inside the care-home, Bob talks to Doris and - despite

competition from her ex-boyfriend Javier - manages to convince her to move to Columbia with him to fulfill her dream of working with children. Saying goodbye to his mother, Bob and Doris head outside for Bob to explain what is happening. After initially telling off an armed officer who opens fire on him despite the fact that Bob is invincible, Bob explains to the crowds and news crews that he is no longer the property of Great Britain and is resigning from the MOD - giving the crowd his mobile phone number to call if they need him and saying that he has someone special in his life now who he wants to try and make happy. Saying goodbye to Teresa, Bob and Doris share a kiss in front of the crowd before they fly off into the night.

Epilogue[]

In the epilogue of the documentary, Bob and Doris - as well as Bob's security guard Barry - have settled happily in Columbia, with Bob continuing his job as a superhero and getting better responses from the people who he saves. Teresa, meanwhile, is relocated to Afghanistan (which she describes as an easy job in comparison to her time working for the MOD) and it's revealed that scientists have been studying the meteor that struck Bob in the hope of discovering how to replicate his powers. When asked by the narrator if they've found anything, the lead scientist admits that they've found nothing - even declaring "it might as well be a purple turd".

Personality[]

Despite been "the most powerful man in the world", Bob is mild mannered and socially awkward - with his boss Teresa and even members of the public taking advantage of him. It's indicated that Bob may have a mental disability as he is forgetful and requires help for a lot of different things - with Doris often acting as his carer as well as his cleaner at his mother's behest (his mother even stating that Bob cannot tie his own shoes).

Furthermore, Bob does have a slight tendency to be blunt and even make snarky comments - such as when Doris criticizes him for never saying 'no' to Teresa, only for Bob to criticize her about her own apparent inability to say no to the several boyfriends she's had in the past. Despite this, Bob does acknowledge Doris' help as he states she will be great looking after children based on the years she has spent looking after him.
