Anodites are a free-spirited race of energy beings from the planet Anodyne. Mature Anodites are pure energy and draw life from the mana around them.

Biology

Anatomy

Anodites have dark purple, humanoid bodies that consist of pure mana. From their heads radiate streams of bright pink energy, which can take the shape of tentacles. They do not have any visible ears, nose or lips, nor do they wear any clothing.

Reproduction

Anodites are able to reproduce with Humans by assuming a Human body. If an Anodite reproduces with a Human, they can use unknown methods to try and pass on their abilities along to their children.[1]

The chances of inheriting Anodite abilities can potentially occur in offspring in later generations. For example, neither of Verdona's sons (Carl and Frank Tennyson) inherited her Anodite powers, while her granddaughters (Gwen Tennyson and Sunny) did.

Lifespan

Anodites are biologically immortal, as they are able to change their crafted body's age at will.[1]

Powers and abilities

An Anodite's most prominent ability is to manipulate and control mana, a pink energy that is the very substance of magic itself. Using mana, Anodites can generate blasts or create weapons and constructs that can vary in size, complexity, and strength.

Anodites can communicate with each other through the "mana field", even across interstellar distances. They also possess undisclosed levels of telepathic prowess and sensitivity, being able to project their thoughts into a Human's mind from long distances.

Anodites can project their life essence (or soul) outside themselves through the art of astral projection. By encasing objects and people in mana, they can simulate telekinesis.

Anodites can track organic lifeforms, including Humans and Merlinisapiens, via their energy signature. They can also manipulate the hair-like stream of energy that radiates from their head, solidifying it to use as tendrils to grasp or ensnare objects.

There are multiple ways an Anodite can become mobile. One way is by teleporting themselves and others across an undefined distance. Other methods including creating dimensional vortexes and fly in a way that looks like levitation. Experienced Anodites are able to fly through space, indicating that their race in general can survive in the vacuum of space.

Anodites have some degree of superhuman strength, as they can break free from bindings allegedly as strong as steel. Their bodies are remarkably durable, being visibly uninjured by large stone rocks.

Anodites can learn to make Human "bodies" to wear as disguises. They can manipulate the skins' physical age.[1] These bodies can be shed or discarded, much like a snake shedding its skin. It seems that when an Anodite retains their original body, they do not shed their skin when assuming their energy form, but instead shift into their Anodite self.

Anodites can foster and infuse life energy in others, thereby inducing rapid healing. They can also draw in mana from other living things and become more powerful as a result.

Experienced Anodites can alter reality itself within a localized radius and to a limited extent. This can be executed by a mere snap of fingers.

In her Anodite form, Gwen Tennyson could grow to a gigantic size when angry. It is unknown if other Anodites can use such an ability in their Human forms.

Weaknesses

Anodites cannot track Ectonurites, as they have no mana and are not alive in a conventional sense. Similarly, their tracking does not work well with non-biological lifeforms, including robots and Galvanic Mechamorphs.

Anodites are vulnerable to being drained of their energy to the point of either dying or at least becoming powerless.

An Anodite's mana attacks are useless against certain species, such as Geochelone Aerios and Transylians.

Despite being entirely comprised of magic, Anodites are still susceptible to the effects of magic. Magic can be used to ward beings against mana attacks or steal an Anodite's powers.

It allegedly requires about 75 years before an Anodite can fully master their powers. Using their full power before achieving complete control may result in them being overwhelmed and losing sight of themselves.

In correlation with non-biological lifeforms, Anodite energy can have trouble with technology and vice versa. For example, in an area riddled with technology an Anodite may struggle to divine the location of someone.

Anodites have sensitive hearing, meaning that they are sensitive to high-pitched noises such as those produced by an Evolved Sonorosian.

Advanced technology, such as a bracelet designed by the Synthroids, can neutralize most of an Anodite's powers and imprison them in Human form.

Culture and society

As stated by Verdona, Anodites are very free-spirited. Most of them do not take life as seriously as most Humans, to the point that some Anodites disregard the morality of their actions. They would rather satisfy their own personal pleasures.

Anodites can be slightly condescending to non-energy beings, but this does not stop them from helping other beings.

While Anodites can theoretically absorb mana from other sentient life forms, most choose not to do so.[1]

Notes

  • Anodites lack DNA. Therefore, any child of an Anodite with another species will be related to that Anodite via parentage but will not have any Anodite DNA.[1] However, Anodites have something analogous to DNA.[2]
  • Although only female Anodites have been seen on-screen, it is believed that male Anodites "sort of" exist.[1]
  • Developing as an Anodite and mastering magic use "many of the same muscles" so to speak. These include kicking a ball and swimming.[3]
  • Not all of Gwen Tennyson's alternate counterparts are Anodites, confirmed examples including her Dimension 23, Gweniverse, and No Watch Timeline counterparts. Similarly, Gweniverse Ben is not an Andotie.[2]
    • The Gweniverse Gwen 10 cannot transform into an Anodite using her Omnitrix.[2]
  • There is at least one alien species (i.e. Tiny's Species) that is able to see through an Anodite's human guise.
  • Anodites are Derrick J. Wyatt's least favorite species featured in Ben 10 lore because he views them as underpowered Pink Lanterns and prefers "real" magic systems.[2]
    • Similar to the Osmosians, Derrick finds turning a key aspect of Ben 10 lore introduced in the original series into something alien-based a misstep that makes the overall universe of the franchise smaller and less interesting.[2]
  • Although they are from different universes, it has confirmed by Derrick that Anodites are at a power level similar to Metahumans such as the Scarlet Witch of Earth-199999.
