The Barabels are a race of cold-blooded reptilians from Barab I. They have very tough, dark-colored scales adorning their body, which naturally will deflect blaster shots set to stun without so much as slowing the Barabel down. If necessary, they are able to shed their tails, an ability that has proven to be the undoing of many a startled foe.
While many of their actions are fueled by their hunting instincts, their attitude regularly leads to the general feeling amongst other races that Barabels are always angry, or at the very least ornery. The express emotion such as amusement or grief by "sissing".
The Barabel were well-known for never apologising, as they considered apologies an insult, due to this they hated receiving an apology and apologising to a Barabel usually made the situation worse.

Historical Background[]
In accordance with Barabel legend, a small group of Jedi led by the Ithorian Noga-ta came to Barab I in 900 BBY. Noga-ta helped to settle a civil war that had been plaguing Barabel society for thousands of years. Consequently, the Barabels held Jedi in high esteem and would accept a Jedi's judgment in any dispute.
After this contact, the reptilians had little contact with offworlders for centuries. Yet soon after the rise of the Galactic Empire, planetary safaris began organizing hunting trips to Barab I, with the sought quarry being the Barabels themselves. With but a few Barabels killed from the safari hunts, one Barabel leader known as Shaka-ka, decided to organize groups of her fellow hunters into armies which she then led to overwhelm the safari ships. Soon an Imperial investigation led to the revelation that the Barabels were sapient, and the safaris were ended. Shaka-ka then formed an alliance with Imperial Governor Paro Lanto and had the spaceport city of Alater-ka built. With this, some of their species began to head offworld to work as mercenaries and bounty hunters.
During the era of the New Republic, several Barabels became members of the Jedi Order. Unfortunately for the species, they were brought to extinction when their homeworld was ravaged by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion of the galaxy; however, some escaped the widespread fires by retreating to Barab's vast network of caverns.
