Cerebrocrustaceans are a sapient species of crab-like aliens from the stormy planet Encephalonus IV.[1]

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

The Cerebrocrustaceans are crab-like aliens with small bumps around their faces and on top of their very large heads. They have arms with claws sprouting from the sides of their heads, four or six spider-like legs, and a stubby body. Their face is composed of a pair of pupiless eyes and a mouth that does not move as they speak. They wear neck braces to support their heads while moving outside of water.

Although they traditionally have orange exoskeletons, Cerebrocrsutaceans can come in other "crabby colors".[2] For example, Negative Brainstorm has a pale pink exoskeleton while Dr. Psychobos has a purple exoskeleton.

Ecology[]

Cerebrocrustaceans are filter feeders and can project their thoughts with soundwaves.[2]

The Cerebrocrustaceans' natural predators are the Vicetopus.

Powers and abilities[]

Cerebrocrustaceans are extremely intelligent, so much that their IQ is too high to be measured on a human scale.[3] This allows them to solve difficult calculations mentally in seconds and both determine and visualize equations and the movement of objects as if they are actually there. Ultimately, they perfectly understand the mindsets and mannerisms of enemies and the presence of any useful objects around them, so they can know exactly what moves to make in battle. Technically speaking, their IQ is shown to be 10^30 (or one nonillion).

By both thinking hard enough[1] and opening the exoskeleton plates on their skull Cerebrocrustaceans can produce and manipulate beams of electricity that are powerful enough to harm Necrofriggians, Pturbosaurians, Sonorosians, and Zaroffians. This electrical energy can be used in a variety of other ways, such as electrocuting or launching enemies and disabling or destroying machinery. These beams also come in different colors, including yellow, green, red, and purple.

Cerebrocrustaceans can charge up their electrical energy to produce a concentrated beam of electricity strong enough to blast a fighter jet possessed by a Galvanic Mechamorph out of the air. Additionally, they can control the voltage of their electrokinetic attacks.

Cerebrocrustaceans can create electric field waves from their brains to block attacks, knock away enemies, generate protective force fields powerful enough to topple an Evolved Arburian Pelarota, and even produce electrical storms.[1]

Despite having soft bodies,[1] Cerebrocrustaceans are durable thanks to their exoskeletal shells, which can withstand laser and gun fire.[3] These shells also give them hard and protective coat-like layers, which can resist the cold temperatures of places such as mountains.

Cerebrocrustaceans are strong enough to pin opponents against walls, rip apart an Arachnichimp's webbing, and crush a refrigerator with their pinchers.[3] They are also very agile, as they can perform acrobatics such as somersaults and forward rolls.

Cerebrocrustaceans seem to have enhanced dexterity, despite having pincers. They can also levitate several stories off the ground.

Cerebrocrustaceans can breathe underwater because they possess gills, which they have to keep moist when on land.[4]

Weaknesses[]

Cerebrocrustaceans tend to be egotistical, which makes them forget how to do simple things due to their cocky attitude.

If a Cerebrocrustacean's shell is forcibly closed when they are releasing electricity, it will shock them into submission and injure their brains.

Loud noises such as Sonorosian's sonic screams can give Cerebrocrustaceans headaches, making it hard for them to concentrate.

Cerebrocrustaceans can be lifted and carried by a species with as much strength as a Pturbosaurian.

Cerebrocrustaceans can be easily overpowered by a Galilean's gravity powers.

Without the aid of special equipment,[2] Cerebrocrustaceans are incapable mnemokinesis, meaning that they are unable to manipulate the brain pulsations and either alter or erase another being's memories and thoughts.

Similarly, Cerebrocrustaceans are incapable of electrical telepathy, meaning that they cannot sense electrical pulses of another being's mind to read their thoughts.

Culture and society[]

Cerebrocrustaceans are either the third, fourth or fifth smartest race in the galaxy. Apart from Dr. Psychobos, they do not consider the Galvan to be their primary rivals.[2]

Language[]

Cerebrocrustaceans speak in a higher diction with either British or Austrian accents, depending on the individual. Unlike other beings, they do not speak through their mouths, instead using disembodied voices.

Notable members[]

  • Brainstorm: An Omnitrix transformation used by Ben Tennyson.
    • Brainstrom (Ben 10,000 Timeline): An alternate adult version of Brainstorm used off-screen by the original Ben 10,000.[5]
    • Negative Brainstorm: An alternate version of Brainstorm used by Albedo.
  • Dignitary 16: A Cerebrocrustacean diplomat captured by Servantis for his experiments. He would later be seen attending Max Tennyson (Ben 10,000 Timeline)'s retirement.
  • Cerebrocrustacean Actor: A Cerebrocrustacean who auditioned for the role of Brainstorm in Albedo's stage play.

Half-qualifiers[]

  • Ultimate Kevin: 17-year-old Kevin Levin of the Prime Timeline transformed into an amalgamation of every alien available in the Ultimatrix prior to traveling to the Forge of Creation, including Brainstorm.
  • Dr. Psychobos: A cybernetically-enhanced mutant Cerebrocrustacean and the creator of the Nemetrix.
  • Servantis: The leader of the Rooters who mutated himself with Cerebrocrustacean DNA thanks to his experiments.

History[]

The Cerebrocrustaceans' ancestors took advantage of the natural storms surrounding the Encephalonus planets, resulting in the destruction of three planets by using up all of their natural resources.

By the time they arrived at Encephalonus IV, the Cerebrocrustaceans had evolved to create the electricity instead of taking it away and therefore arrived as the electricity-generating crustaceans that they are today.

The Cerebrocrustaceans are deeply ashamed of their ancestors having been responsible for the destruction of their original homeworld Encephalonus I and the two other planets (Encephalonus II and Encephalonus III) in their solar system.

Notes[]

  • The name Cerebrocrustacean is a play on "cerebrum" and "crustacean"; it was first used on-screen by Driba in the Omniverse episode "The Frogs of War: Part 2".
  • The Austrian accent used by Cerebrocrustaceans in Omniverse is based on Ludwing von Drake.[2]
  • In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Cerebrocrustaceans are portrayed as hexapedal. However, in Omniverse, they are instead quadrupedal.
  • Several official sources have provided different explanations on how Cerebrocrustacean can speak using disembodied voices:
    • Dwayne McDuffie stated that they electrostatically vibrate gaseous or liquid mediums.[4]
    • Derrick J. Wyatt stated that their thoughts are projected mentally as sound waves.[2]
    • Brainstorm's Alien Creation card from Bandai's Ultimate Alien toyline tangentially called it a "secret mind link".[3]
  • It is confirmed that the Omnitrix from the Ben 10 reboot contains Cerebrocrustacean DNA.[6] Therefore, Brainstorm is one of the countless aliens whose DNA pod was glimpsed in the episode "Innervasion Part 5: High Override".
    • Brainstorm was among the aliens considered to physically appear in the reboot, but did not make the cut because Shock Rock was given a heavy focus during Season 2.[6]
