The Chromans were a sentient race of worm-like, humanoid beings native to the planet Chroma Zed. A Chroman had smooth skin that covered their entire body, and had small, webbed hands that could be used to move about. These beings burrowed into the rocky cliffs of their homeworld, carving out chambers and tunnels that formed their cities. Chromans lived near water, which they needed to keep their bodies moist. Any Chroman exposed to the dry air of a desert found that its body began to dry out almost immediately. The Imperial forces that subjugated the planet took advantage of this, dragging individual Chromans onto sunbaked rocks to force the others into submission. Thus, after the Imperials were driven off Chroma Zed, the Chromans refused to expose much more than their heads whenever they met with off-worlders.
