The Gnarltree is considered to be one of the most bizarre plant forms in the galaxy. Native to the swamps of Dagobah, they begin life as mobile predators known as Knobby White Spiders.

Biology[]

These swamp-loving trees live on Dagobah and grow slowly upward through the centuries. Their huge roots grow out of the bog, providing shelter in the hollow spaces. Each Gnarltree is a microcosm of life-forms with lichens, moss, and shelf-fungus filling the crannies of the calcified trunk. But the strangest aspect of the Gnarltree's biology is that the Knobby White Spiders are part of its life cycle. Each spider is actually a detachable, mobile root that has broken free of the parent Gnarltree and became a predator, hunting and devouring to build up its energy and nutrients before making a clearing and putting down its eight sharp legs, which become the roots of the new adult Gnarltree.

Knobby White Spider[]

Knobby White Spider

Knobby White Spiders have a large, lumpy body with a bloated, bulbous head, eight gnarled legs and one large stinger used to capture and sedate their prey. Composed primarily of calcified wood, they originate as mobile roots that break free of their parent Gnarltree to roam the swamps and devour animals. After gathering enough nutrients, the Knobby White Spider will find a clear spot to anchor its legs, which will eventually transform into roots that allow the spider to grow into a towering Gnarltree.
