"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
―The Borg

The Borg are a mysterious pseudo-race of cybernetic beings, or cyborgs, from the Delta Quadrant. No truly single individual exists within the Borg Collective (with the possible sole exception of the Borg Queen), as they are linked into a hive mind. Their ultimate goal is perfection through the forcible assimilation of diverse sapient species, technologies, and knowledge. As a result, they are among the most powerful and feared races in the galaxy.

Biology[]

The biology of each Borg drone varies according to the species from which it was assimilated. Drones are typically humanoid, although the Collective has demonstrated a willingness to assimilate non-humanoid life forms and even non-corporeal beings can be assimilated with varying levels of success. The non-corporeal Medusan species are suseptable to assimilation although with enough effort can resist the Collective, it is unknown if the omnipotent Q species can be assimilated although they do seem to consider the Borg far from harmless. Some species such as Species 8472 (Undine) are able to resist assimilation due to their advanced immune systems and bio-technology.

Upon assimilation, a drone will cease to grow body hair and develop an ashen, grayish skin coloration, ignoring original skin pigmentation. Cybernetic implants will be either surgically attached to the body or grown internally by nanoprobes injected into the bloodstream. The nature of these implants varies from drone to drone, depending on its intended function, but basic nodes of cordical, interlink & cortical array are implemented in every drone. In certain cases, parts of the body such as an eye or an arm will be amputated altogether to make room for the cybernetics. The implants of a fully assimilated drone allow it to function for extended periods without shelter, food, water, or even air. A drone's only requirement will be a supply of energy to maintain the implants that in turn maintain its biological functions. This energy is supplied during regeneration cycles within a Borg alcove. Upon receiving damage, a drone will return to the cove for assessment of the damage. Severely damaged drones will be disassembled and scavenged for reusable parts.

Borg drones are equipped with a myriad of technologies integrated into their bodies which enable them to perform their duties within the Collective, several of which are universal to all drones. A neural transceiver keeps them connected to the hive mind. A personal force field protects each drone from most energy-based attacks. As of 2373, each drone possesses a pair of assimilation tubules embedded in one hand for the purpose of instantly injecting individuals with Borg nanoprobes. A cortical processor allows a drone to rapidly assimilate visual information. Borg drones are also equipped with a neural processor, which keeps a record of every instruction that particular Borg receives from the collective hive mind. Captain Picard used this processor to discover the Borg were attempting to use the Enterprise-E deflector dish as an Interplexing Beacon to contact the Borg in 2063.

Drones also contain fail safes designed to deactivate and even vaporize their own bodies, thereby allowing the Collective to eliminate damaged or dead drones without leaving remains to be exploited by outsiders. The captured drone Third of Five also made comments indicating that this vaporization may have been a form of resource reabsorption. One of these failsafes is intended to automatically deactivate drones experiencing strong emotional states, which the Borg interpret as a sign of disconnection from the hive mind.

With the destruction of the Borg collective link by the USS Voyager, several Borg cubes spread across space, freeing the assimilated species to have a new chance of independent life in individuality, as in the case of the Borg cube of 10 of 5 group, the designation of Hugh, found and dominated by the Romulans as advanced base, under the orders of a secret militia within the Starfleet.

The Borg Queen is just a robotic clone synthetic of several queens of a species that was taken advantage of by the Borg by (species 125), whose long skull makes it possible to store thousands of data, species 125, before, she was the a only surviving female refugee from an extinct planet by asteroid fall, found by the Borgs still in the Delta quadrant by signal positronic of help through of lab her, and assimilated after about 300 years ago, when the Borg had only one collectivity among them, in search of a leadership that would guide the entire collectivity the evolution of perfection between them.

Although a person assimilated into the borg becomes a drone, it is possible for a drone to gain a sense of individuality if they are separated from the Borg queen for a long enough period of time.

The most notable case of this are Seven of Nine and Jean-Luc Picard. A particularly interesting case was Hugh, who not only developed a sense of individuality but also managed to spread it among other borg drones.

Technology[]

The Borg are extremely advanced, having assimilated over a thousand species, they have mastered many areas of technological development, including interstellar communication, nano-technology, but more importantly, they have a complete mastery of transwarp technology and mild time-travel capabilities, their transwarp tech is enviable, and their vast network of gateways, jump-points, and nexuses, spans nearly the entire galaxy. They utilise Tritanium as a standard construction material, making their ships and complexes extremely durable allowing them to survive unpowered atmospheric entries and mass weapons fire.

Borg Medical drones include multiple scanners and equipment to repair damaged units while Tactical Drones have Tritanium Plating Combat Sensors and forearm disruptors. Borg Vessels are decentralised allowing them to ramain active with heavy damage and are repaired by thousands of automated Repair Robots. Transwarp Conduits are able to deliver ships across quadrants within hours and most Borg Ships have auxiliary craft, ranging from docked Spheres, Scouts and Probes. Entire planets can be Assimilated by introducing a Nanorobe Virus into their atmosphere infecting all biological lifeforms, hijacking computer systems, re-engineering structures and terraforming the crust within days.

History[]

The early history of the collective has been mostly lost to time, their origins laying 'thousands of centuries' in the past, what we do know is that they originated in the Milky Way's Delta Quadrant, and by the time of the Vaadwaur, they had only assimilated a few systems.

The first encounter between the Borg Collective and Earth was in 2035 AD, though the Borg who encountered Earth did come from Earth's future following official first contact, just don't think about it too hard, anyhow the future Enterprise crew managed to crash the Borg ship over Antarctica, narrowly preventing the botching of first contact between Humans and Vulcans.

True first contact between the Borg and the UFP was made by Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise when he was visited by Q, who decided to introduce him to the true unknown dangers of the galaxy. He used his powers to move the Enterprise into an uncharted region of space, where the crew of the Enterprise confronted a Borg Cube. the crew came in to contact with the Borg many times. On one occasion, there was a transporter accident which merged 7of 9's nanoprobes with the Doctor's mobile emitter and some D.N.A from a crewman, which created a Borg drone with the technological level of the 29th century. However, it committed suicide in an attempt to stop his 29th century technology to fall into the wrong hands.

The Borgs existence comes from a chance meeting between an advanced race called the Caeliar and a federation vessel captained by Erica Hernandez. When the Caeliar captured the vessel they held the crew hostage because of their fear of being exposed due to the highly advanced technology they wished to keep secret. Some of the crew caused a catastrophe on one of the Caeliar's planet ships causing some of the crew and some of the Caeliar to crash land on a planet back in time (4000 years back). The caeliar who relied on a power source from their home started to die, in an effort for survival they absorbed themselves into the few remaining humans that had survived the crash and thus the first Borg were created. The nano probes that are used by the Borg were a crude replica of 'catoms' which were far more advanced and made up the Caeliar. Unfortunately the only essence left of the Caeliar in the new Borg drones was the quest for perfection and all the advanced civilization lessons the Caeliar had learnt was lost in the new drones. Eventually after a massive Borg attack on the federation caused the Caeliar( who had been hidden for centuries) to show themselves and eventually realising they were to blame for the existence of the Borg, decided to transform all the Borg back to their original forms and invite all the x drones to join them in one peaceful civilization. Most joined and the Caeliar departed for good with their new population. Seven of nine having still some Borg technology, was also given a chance to join but decided to remain with the federation.
