Orcs are a race of bipedal sapients who are indigenous to the planet Draenor, which has since been destroyed and transformed in Outland. They are notable for smelling so bad that undead beings find them detestable. Naturally, they lead a shamanistic culture, although this was temporarily brought to a halt due to the Burning Legion's influence. Most of their species currently reside on the planet Azeroth's Kalimdor continent, in an area they have named Durotar.
Originally, the Orcs were brown-skinned, but due to their discovery by the Burning Legion thanks to the members of the Eredar who would soon become known as the Draenei, they were purposefully corrupted by Kil'jaedon in order to aid in the defeat of the Draenei. This caused the Orc's skin to become green or greenish, which unfortunately for their species was passed down genetically. Because of this, very few brown-skinned orcs still exist, even though most Orcs now shun fel energies.
They were brought to the planet Azeroth by a temporarily insane "human", Medivh by his communicating across the Great Dark Beyond to the then-defacto-leader of the Orc tribes, Nerzhul, and creating an object on both planets to connect the two known as the Dark Portal. While the Orcs invaded Azeroth and initially found success, they were eventually defeated and pushed back to Draenor, where their homeworld was then destroyed thanks to the efforts of Nerzhul. With Draenor destroyed, the remaining Orcs on Azeroth became lethargic while in internment camps and eventually found their way back to freedom due to a new warchief, Thrall.
