Skulteras were an aggressive species of ichthyoid indigenous to the planet Zebes' Maridia sector. They had curious physiology, specifically due to the fact that their tails seemed to be pieced out of several separate pieces, and that they would rotate for unknown reasons. Two varieties exist: light and heavy versions. However, it is unknown if these are different genders, different ages, or separate subspecies.
Light Skulteras are susceptible to rapid-fire power beam shots, while Heavy Skulteras with their thick bony head growth are only known to be vulnerable to either fully charged power shot fire or missile blasts, which crack their exoskeletal shell. A third version of the Skulteras, which are simply X-mimicked versions known as Skultera-Xs, are instead susceptible to Ice Missiles and a fully charged beam shot to crack them.
As with all other species native to Zebes, it became extinct in the wild when Samus Aran finally destroyed the evil Mother Brain. While they were seen aboard the Bottle Ship and the Biologic Space Laboratory Research Station, in the latter as infected or versions mimicked by the X Parasite which had taken over, the Bottle Ship and the BSL were destroyed in a similar manner to Zebes.
