Gugs are a species of large, brutish, carnivorous creatures from the Dreamlands.

Biology[]

Gugs are furry 20 ft. tall (6.096 m) creatures. They have a vertical mouth filled with sharp yellow fangs, and a pair of arms that bifurcate at the elbow, giving them a total of four hands. Each hand is 2.5 ft. across (76.2 cm) and equipped with deadly talons. The head is as big as a barrel. Their bright pink eyes are located two inches from the sides of the head and shaded by coarse-haired bony protuberances. Gugs are so large than a single Gug corpse can feed an entire community of Ghouls for almost a year.

In the past, Gugs used to feed principally on mortals who visited their realm while dreaming, but after being banished to underground caverns, they usually have to content themselves with feeding on the native Ghasts. The relationship between the two species is not simply that of predator and prey, however, since the Ghasts will also attack Gugs when they're sleeping and kill Gugs in retribution for preying upon them.

Gugs are entirely mute and communicate with each other by facial expressions. Despite making no vocalizations, they have an acute sense of hearing. They can also see well in the dark.

Culture and society[]

Gugs dwell in their own kingdom and worship Nyarlathotep and the Other Gods. In the past, the Gugs built stone circles in the woodlands and made sacrifices to their gods there, until the Earth's gods banished the Gugs to underground caverns, where they have lived ever since. Despite being fearsome creatures themselves, Gugs are known to fear Ghouls and prefer to avoid them. However, Gugs will still engage Ghouls in combat if the situation favors them.
