SA-X

From Alien Species

The SA-X is a secondary character of the Metroid Fusion title of the Metroid series. It is a variation of the X parasite that absorbed the title character, Samus Aran's DNA and abilities, and used them to release itself from captivity, founding the basis of the game.

Origins

The SA-X from Metroid Fusion is believed to have come from the Quarantine Bay on the Main Deck. Because it absorbed Samus' abilities, it used a Power Bomb to breach the protective capsule it was in, and with all the crew members dead, and the Ice Beam, it easily opened the Level 0 hatch guarding the bay and left to go to one of the sectors. This can be evidently seen when entering the Quarantine Bay area where there is a warped wall. The bay is the first mission of Samus'.

Encounters

There are a number of SA-X encounters and discoveries in the game. Shortly after recovering the Morph Ball from a standard core-X, as Samus is going down the personnel elevator to head to Sector 1 (SRX), the SA-X blows a hole in the left wall, walks out, stares at the camera, where a close up of its face is obtained, then walks over and missiles the hatch, destroying it. Samus then feels a shudder as the hatch explosion occurs. The computer then confirms that an unknown agent is at work. The first sighting of it is in Sector 2 (TRO), where it confirms the computer's statement that the thing is equipped with the Ice Beam.

Types of X

It is believed that because of the X brought back being only standard ones, most of the different types were ones created from the various forms of the SA-X. There are 2 major catagories of X: s-X (standard X) and c-X (core X).

Types of X in catagory s-X

yS-X - your standard yellow X. Whenever it is absorbed, 10 points of health are added to Samus's energy tank. However, these X do not restore things like abilities, or missiles or Power Bombs.

gS-X - A level 2 X. These ones are green, and restore up to 2 Missiles apiece. However, these do not restore energy, or abilities.

rS-X - A level 3 X. These are red, and normally only found around bosses from the eyeball doors. However they can be found in areas outside of there, and they do restore up to 5 "clicks" health, up to 60 missiles, and up to 40 Power Bombs apiece.

bS-X - A level 4 X. These are blue in appearance, and are only found in Sector 6 (NOC), and Sector 5 (ARC). They will freeze Samus if they are absorbed. However, the Varia Suit fixes this. They restore about 30 points apiece.

Types of X in catagory c-X

There are 2 main types of Core-X in the game, of which both can prove deadly. There are the offensive Core-X (oC-X), and then there are the defensive Core-X (dC-X). The defensive core-X are a easier to kill. They have a thinner membrane with spikes on it. These return Samus with defensive abilities such as the Space Jump and the Gravity Suit. However, the other type of Core-X is the offensive type, which has an "eye" in which it will charge up the shot and release it. To defeat these, Samus has to shoot the charge area before it shoots. You regain abilities such as the Plasma Beam from these Core-X.

Why Samus Couldn't Destroy the SA-X

The reasons why Samus could not destroy the SA-X is because of the fact that the SA-X has her fully-powered suit, equipped with the Ice Beam and such, would easily be able to destroy her at any point in the game. Due to her increased vulnerability due to the Fusion Suit, she cannot face it head on. Her computerized CO notes that however weak she is, a penetrating weapon such as the Plasma Beam may be able to destroy it.
