Category confusion Edit

There is a lot of mis-categorized pages right now, But sapient species are intelligent, non-sapient are animals, and beings are distinct entities that do not represent a species (think galactus) ralok (talk) 16:34, October 16, 2012 (UTC)

SPECIES, species is the proper category for SPECIES. I was made an admin basically to deal with the issue of category confusion. A BEING is an independent creature, that is not part of a species . . . GALACTUS is a sapient being, Yog-Sothoth is a sapient being . . . these are alien beings independent and not part of a species. Their abilities and biology isolating them. Currently a loooooooot of species are in the beings category, it is incorrect and we are currently trying to correct the problem. Use the species category when you create pages okay :I ralok (talk) 18:53, October 16, 2012 (UTC)

Reptiles Edit

Although this is not intuitive, and I understand your insistence in including pages of reptilian aliens in "Category:Reptiles", I need to warn you that this is wrong. Reptiles are Earth creatures; the nomenclature (as used by modern biology) implies common ancestry, and even in the Linnaean usage it still requires a number of physical characters which we have no idea whether these fictional species share or not. In short, you can't say an extraterrestrial being is a "reptile" or "mammal" or "insect", regardless of how common this is in fiction. Feel absolutely free to use Category:Reptilianoid Species, which is for creatures that look like reptiles, but please stop using "Category:Reptiles" which I have deleted for being inaccurate and unappropriated for a wiki about extraterrestrials. -- BlueFrackle (talk) 18:13, November 25, 2012 (UTC)

star wars species Edit

if you come across a page for a star wars species that is only two sentences long, and says the species is identical to another one. Please mark the page for deletion. ralok (talk) 23:51, December 5, 2012 (UTC)

Dreugh Edit

I had to remove the images from this article because someone from the Elder Scrolls Wiki says it was stolen (that's his POV not mine) and he is saying the whole article has been copied he wants me to investigate it byt I believe you added the Dreugh article in good faith. --Owen1983 (talk) 21:57, December 10, 2012 (UTC)

No problem Edit

Thanks for getting in touch though. Owen1983 (talk) 19:56, December 11, 2012 (UTC)

Dangit I have been trying to phase out the "Alternative Forms of Life" category because it is meaningless X _ X ralok (talk) 13:56, December 14, 2012 (UTC)

the spirit of the category is not in question, I understand it is for species that are meant to be radically different than what we find on earth. But those species would be grouped into their own categories based on similarities, like . . . rock-like species, or something. The category suffers from the major problem that it is so broad that it doesnt help sort anything, and thus might as well be a synonym for alien (note, any alien can be described as an alternate form of life) ralok (talk) 14:09, December 14, 2012 (UTC)

categories Edit

I dont like either the Alien Species category, or the categories indicating whether a species is illustrated or not . . . but . . . I will compromise here. The "Images Needed" category should be merged with the "Unillustrated Species" category. . . I feel all three categories (alien species, illustrated species, and unillustrated species) are ultimately useless to someone looking at the page, but are useful tools for editors . . . so how would you feel about making them "Hidden Categories"? ralok (talk) 15:34, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

Okay then . . . I suppose a compromise has been reached. Although personally I feel the alien species category is still redundant . . . but I cant always win. Dont forget to add the illustrated, and unillustrated categories to pages even though they will not appear :) ralok (talk) 20:57, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

a favor? Edit

could you do me a favor and start using this template? Instead of what you are currently using? If there are any ccategories you think it needs please tell me. As well it should only be used when over three of the thing can be filled. ralok (talk) 23:15, April 4, 2013 (UTC)
